Week One: Vizenor

Native Transmotion:
Key words:  stories, hearsay, presence, absence, transmotion, sovereignty, simulations, maps (Native Virtual Cartography), fee simple patent, modern

Colonial Inversions:
Native Sovereignty pp. 181-182
The Sovereignty of Motion pp. 182-185

Try to bring together Vizenor’s idea of sovereignty of motion with the readings and class discussion so far.  Sovereignty as Transmotion p. 188-

Crossover Sovereignty:  The Bering Straight Migration, the Constitution of the United States, Lonewolf v. Hitchock, Cherokee Nation  v. Georgia, Worcester V. Georgia, 11th Ammendment, 14th Ammendment, Citizenship (we).

We:  “That pronoun, however, is a source of justice and unity in a constitutional democracy.  ‘We, the People,’ is a generous, common pronoun, and a mighty promise.”  P. 199

What is the nature of this promise?  And to whom?
How does this relate to our working definition of the People?

NB:  Pay special attention to Vizenor’s use of language.  What is he doing with each word?
